A San Fer­nan­do taxi dri­ver nar­row­ly es­caped death at a bas­ket­ball match, af­ter he was shot on Wednes­day night. Akeil King, 25, of the Hous­ing De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion's Em­ba­cadere Apart­ment Build­ings is cur­rent­ly un­der treat­ment at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for a bul­let wound to his shoul­der.

A team of po­lice of­fi­cers led by Cpl Em­rith re­spond­ed and af­ter in­ter­view­ing res­i­dents, sus­pect that he may have been hit from a stray bul­let. Ac­cord­ing to the of­fi­cers, no one seemed to know which di­rec­tion the bul­let came from. Re­ports in­di­cat­ed that around 8.55 pm, King was view­ing a game at a bas­ket­ball court lo­cat­ed at the front of the com­mu­ni­ty, when he heard two loud ex­plo­sions.

He told in­ves­ti­ga­tors that af­ter hear­ing the shots, he felt a burn­ing sen­sa­tion to his left hand and re­alised that he was bleed­ing. He was tak­en to hos­pi­tal by a res­i­dent, where he un­der­went emer­gency surgery. Lat­est re­ports were that he was rest­ing in a sat­is­fac­to­ry con­di­tion at Ward Four of the hos­pi­tal. Po­lice said King was not known to be in any il­le­gal ac­tiv­i­ties.
