Princes Town po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the death of a one-year-old ba­by boy who in­gest­ed tablets while his teenaged moth­er slept. Nee­ta Lutch­man, 17, of Buen In­ten­to Road, Princes Town, told po­lice she was asleep when she heard her ba­by cough­ing around 6 am on Mon­day. When she got up she saw him sit­ting on the floor chew­ing on her tablets.

The ba­by be­came ill and was rushed to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. He was giv­en emer­gency treat­ment and was lat­er ward­ed in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion at the In­ten­sive Care Unit of the hos­pi­tal. How­ev­er, he died around 8 pm on Tues­day. An au­top­sy con­duct­ed on the body yes­ter­day by Dr Dais­ley re­vealed that the ba­by died from in­ges­tion of a tox­ic sub­stance. PC Per­sad of the Princes Town po­lice sta­tion is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
