Princes Town police are investigating the death of a one-year-old baby boy who ingested tablets while his teenaged mother slept. Neeta Lutchman, 17, of Buen Intento Road, Princes Town, told police she was asleep when she heard her baby coughing around 6 am on Monday. When she got up she saw him sitting on the floor chewing on her tablets.

The baby became ill and was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital. He was given emergency treatment and was later warded in a critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. However, he died around 8 pm on Tuesday. An autopsy conducted on the body yesterday by Dr Daisley revealed that the baby died from ingestion of a toxic substance. PC Persad of the Princes Town police station is continuing investigations.
