Residents of Pepper Village, Gran Couva, complained about the inadequate water supply to the area when they met Caroni Central MP Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh on Saturday. They said they get pipe-borne water two or three times a week. They claim a regular supply is sent to a nearby upscale housing development in the area while they had to depend on rainwater and a sporadic supply from WASA.
The MP also got an earful from residents about landslips and bad roads. He promised to discuss the water situation with WASA officials and spoke of plans to rehabilitate several roads in the area and the community centre in three months' time. He said government also plans to start the construction of two activity centres at a cost of $2 million.
Ramadharsingh, the Minister of the People and Social Development, said his ministry has been given the go-ahead to build outreach centres for rural communities in Icacos, Guayaguayare and Toco where residents will have access to a range of government services.
