The Gov­ern­ment, through the Na­tion­al In­fra­struc­ture De­vel­op­ment Com­pa­ny (Nid­co), is look­ing at bring­ing some ben­e­fits to the com­mu­ni­ties af­fect­ed by the San Fer­nan­do to Point Fortin high­way. This was stat­ed by Oropouche West MP Sta­cy Roop­nar­ine in a me­dia re­lease. Roop­nar­ine and Min­is­ter of Works and In­fra­struc­ture Em­manuel George opened a chil­dren's play park at the Ab­dool Vil­lage Recre­ation Ground in Pe­nal on Fri­day.

Roop­nar­ine said the play park was con­struct­ed by Nid­co as part of its com­mu­ni­ty out­reach pro­gramme for the Solomon Ho­choy High­way ex­ten­sion to Point Fortin. The MP said this was Nid­co's first com­mu­ni­ty-based project and she en­cour­aged the state en­ti­ty do un­der­take projects for com­mu­ni­ties af­fect­ed by the high­way. Roop­nar­ine al­so spoke of the rur­al ne­glect faced by her con­stituents over many years un­der the PNM regime which she was now seek­ing to rec­ti­fy.
