The Government, through the National Infrastructure Development Company (Nidco), is looking at bringing some benefits to the communities affected by the San Fernando to Point Fortin highway. This was stated by Oropouche West MP Stacy Roopnarine in a media release. Roopnarine and Minister of Works and Infrastructure Emmanuel George opened a children's play park at the Abdool Village Recreation Ground in Penal on Friday.
Roopnarine said the play park was constructed by Nidco as part of its community outreach programme for the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin. The MP said this was Nidco's first community-based project and she encouraged the state entity do undertake projects for communities affected by the highway. Roopnarine also spoke of the rural neglect faced by her constituents over many years under the PNM regime which she was now seeking to rectify.
