A man who was killed in an accident in Arima yesterday remains unidentified. Around 9.50 am, the victim who works in the O'Meara Industrial Estate was struck by a car heading east along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway, near the Food Basket Supermarket. Police reports indicate that the victim, of East Indian descent and who appeared to be in his 50s, had gone to buy a newspaper and was attempting to cross from the southern side when he was hit.
Residents were unable to identify the victim, but said they believed he worked as a security guard as he was often seen in the area. Up to 4 pm yesterday, the 38-year-old driver of Alpha Crescent, Bon Air, whose Nissan Cefiro struck the man, remained at the Arima Hospital under police guard. This latest road fatality brought the number of road deaths to 113 for the year.
Appealing to the public for help in identifying the victim, officers urged anyone with missing relatives to contact the Arima Police at 667-2910. Sgt Khan, of the Arima Police Station, is heading the investigation.
