One man was shot dead, an­oth­er in­jured and a third re­mains at large af­ter a shoot-out be­tween sus­pect­ed car thieves and po­lice in Ca­roni. Around 6.15 am on Tues­day, of­fi­cers as­signed to the Cunu­pia De­ploy­ment Cen­tre re­spond­ed to a re­port that a Ford Ranger stolen from the St Joseph dis­trict was seen parked along Mary Allen Street, Kel­ly Vil­lage, Ca­roni.

As of­fi­cers in­spect­ed the locked van, a car con­tain­ing three men ap­proached the group. When of­fi­cers tried to in­ter­cept the car, it sped off as the oc­cu­pants opened fire on the po­lice. Of­fi­cers re­turned fire, hit­ting one man, the oth­er two sus­pects tried to es­cape by jump­ing out of the car and run­ning in dif­fer­ent di­rec­tions. Lead­ing the ex­er­cise was Supt John­ny Abra­ham.
