Car thief killed in shoot-out with police
One man was shot dead, another injured and a third remains at large after a shoot-out between suspected car thieves and police in Caroni. Around 6.15 am on Tuesday, officers assigned to the Cunupia Deployment Centre responded to a report that a Ford Ranger stolen from the St Joseph district was seen parked along Mary Allen Street, Kelly Village, Caroni.
As officers inspected the locked van, a car containing three men approached the group. When officers tried to intercept the car, it sped off as the occupants opened fire on the police. Officers returned fire, hitting one man, the other two suspects tried to escape by jumping out of the car and running in different directions. Leading the exercise was Supt Johnny Abraham.
