Claxton Bay residents to PM: We don’t want McLeod as MP

Residents of Sum Sum Hill, Claxton Bay, are calling on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to remove Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development Minister Errol McLeod as their MP. Members of the Sum Sum Hill Development Group, led by Jason Lewis, staged protest action outside McLeod’s constituency office in Marabella yesterday, claiming they were fed up.
Lewis said: “We decided to take a stand against the MP for the area. For the past two years and a half we have been in constant talks, writing letters, meetings, trying to get things done in the area, especially the Sum Sum Hill community. The residents are calling on Persad-Bissessar to step in and “sort out Errol McLeod.” “If he refuse to do it (his duty) she should get rid of him. We do not want him, we do not want an MP who does not represent the villagers properly.
“He is the voice of Pointe-a-Pierre and if he refuse to do his duty then, he fail all of us and all of us suffering,” Lewis said. While Lewis praised McLeod for his “gentleman” approach to dealing with constituents, he lamented that the MP was “not doing anything.” He said, “He is a great disappointment to me and the whole of Pointe-a-Pierre.”
Winston McKenzie, of Sookhoo Trace, said: “We are not here to make Mr McLeod look bad, he making us look bad by having to do this. In Claxton Bay we have no recreation centre, no Early Childhood Care Centre.”
Lewis said residents would protest everyday until McLeod meets with them. Calls to the minister’s cellphone went unanswered yesterday.
