Search on for missing fisherman
Coast Guard officers spent the day searching for the body of a Cedros fisherman who reportedly jumped into the sea in a suspected suicide attempt, after a domestic dispute. However, up to late yesterday there was no confirmation that the man was dead as his body was never retrieved from the Gulf of Paria. Investigators said around 9.20 pm, Alister Jules, 30, of Fullerton Village, Cedros, had a domestic dispute with a female relative after he demanded to speak with his five-year-old son.
However, the woman refused and Jules was heard shouting, “I ent have no reason to live again.” He then ran into the rough seas and disappeared. Several bystanders jumped in after him but were unable to find him. Coast Guard divers combed the waters for several hours yesterday but there was no trace of Jules. Police said the man was a good swimmer so it is uncertain whether he got into difficulties and drowned.
Coast Guard officers will resume their search today. PC Primus of the Cedros Police Station is continuing investigations.
