Couple arrested for Debe murder
A 23-year-old woman and her 29-year-old male friend, both implicated in the robbery and murder of Debe resident Donawatie Jadoonanan, remain in police custody. Both were arrested after Jadoonanan’s jewelry and some of her clothing were recovered by Homicide detectives. The female suspect who was in possession of Jadoonanan’s jewelry denied involvement in her murder. However, police believe the male suspect robbed and murdered Jadoonanan before giving her jewelry to the woman, who lives in Siparia.
Investigators said they are preparing a file on the murder, which will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions over the weekend. Jadoonanan, 56, who suffered from polio, was found dead in her house at Ramsamooj Trace, on Sunday. Neighbours found her in a bedroom. There were marks on her neck and pieces of ribbon on her chest and legs. Her clothing and jewelry were found in an abandoned shack some 200 feet from her house. An autopsy revealed that she was strangled.
