Three-month-old Sophia Thomas has been given a second chance at life. On June 16, 2012, Sophia arrived in Miami to begin her medical treatment at the Jackson Memorial Medical Centre at the Holtz Children's Hospital. She was diagnosed with having Severe Cleft Lip and Palate. In a statement, Hope of a Miracle Foundation said Sophia was evaluated by plastic surgeon Dr Seth Thaller who then referred her to an Otolaryngologist (ENT specialist) to receive clearance for surgery on June 29.
Sophia had two procedures done: one for cleft lip repair and a second procedure called Bilateral Myringotomy or tube placement. The foundation said the surgery went well. Her treatment was made possible through an alliance between the foundation and IKF's Wonderfund, a programme of the Jackson Memorial Foundation. Hope of a Miracle Foundation has facilitated more than 50 surgeries to change the life of sick children in T&T.
The foundation said it still needed support to change the life of 18 other sick children on the waiting list. The foundation said anyone willing to help can send their contributions to:
