Toco resident Keshorn Walcott continues to receives kudos for the impressive performance that earned him a gold med on Saturday in the javelin event at the London Olympics. Among those who called to congratulate him was his New York-based cousin soca artiste, Keith "Ajala" Sutherland.
"I was so happy for Keshorn. The entire family is elated. It was a proud day to be a Trini in New York. I spoke to my grandmother (Dorothy Walcott) at Cumuto. Ma is thinking about having a thanksgiving for him. Ma would say she is proud of Ajala, now she has Keshorn to be proud of as well," he said. Sutherland said the family was basking in the youth's accomplishment. They were immensely pleased at the outpouring of love and support for him.
But the Walcotts were always optimistic he would do well. "While we was gearing up for the finals, I told my friends I know he could pelt mango real good. He has a powerful arm. They thought I was joking. But the evidence is there," he added. Meanwhile, Sutherland, of Tidal Wave fame, said he would visit the family, including Keshorn's mother Beverly Walco, when the celebrations had quieted down. "I cannot wait to see Keshorn to congratulate him. The boy has made his family proud. It is a memorable day." he added.
