All utilities have reportedly been fully restored to residents affected by flooding in Diego Martin and Maraval. After Saturday's flooding and landslides in north Trinidad, hundreds of people were left not only with damaged homes, but also without basic utilities such as water, electricity and telephone service.
Acting general manager of the T&T Electricity Commission (T&TEC) Courtenay Mark said by Sunday night, all T&TEC customers who had been affected by the flooding and landslides had been reconnected. "There was extensive damage, and it was a challenge because there were places that were under water and roads that were impassable.
I was advised that two electricity poles had been dislodged. "But I can tell you that at this time, all the customers have been reconnected," Mark said. Corporate communications manager of the Telecommunications Services of T&T (TSTT) Graeme Suite said all of the company's services had been restored to customers. He said, however, that the TSTT exchange in Diego Martin had been only partially restored to normal operations.
