A British woman who trusted her friend's cousin to drive her home was instead robbed and raped before being thrown out of a moving car. The 54-year-old tourist told police she was liming at a bar with a friend in Chaguanas when the cousin joined them.
Police said the woman had too much to drink, so the cousin offered to drive them home. After dropping off his relative, the man then took the British citizen to Boykato Trace where he robbed her of $35,000 in jewelry and $80. He then raped her and threw her out of the car before speeding off. The car was found abandoned at Madras Road, Cunupia.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 22-year-old Petit Valley woman escaped an alleged rapist after she boarded a gold Cifero at Chin Chin Road, Cunupia. The woman told police she asked the driver to take her to Cunupia. However, a short distance away, the man grabbed the woman and told her he was going to rape her. He turned the car around. The woman pleaded with the driver to drop her off. On reaching Munroe Road, she opened the car door and jumped out. She stopped a passing car as the assailant drove off.
The woman was taken to the Chaguanas Police Station where she reported the matter. She was taken to the Couva District Hospital where she was treated and discharged. Police have since launched a search for the suspect. No arrests have yet been made.
