Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says members of the Muslim community "have taught us, by example, the essence of sacrifice, patience, tolerance, charity, sharing and helping those who cannot help themselves. These are all fitting examples for citizens of our blessed country." She said this in a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister.
She said: "As we are about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our country's Independence, I must congratulate members of the Muslim community for their dedication, patriotism and hard work. Your efforts have contributed to the overall progress and development of our nation and I salute you on behalf of a grateful nation. We look forward to even greater achievements and progress within the Muslim community so that our country will continue to benefit. "May Almighty Allah accept your fasts, your charity, your prayers and extra acts of worship and may your efforts gain you the mercies and blessings of your Sustainer."
