Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar says mem­bers of the Mus­lim com­mu­ni­ty "have taught us, by ex­am­ple, the essence of sac­ri­fice, pa­tience, tol­er­ance, char­i­ty, shar­ing and help­ing those who can­not help them­selves. These are all fit­ting ex­am­ples for cit­i­zens of our blessed coun­try." She said this in a state­ment from the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter.

She said: "As we are about to cel­e­brate the 50th an­niver­sary of our coun­try's In­de­pen­dence, I must con­grat­u­late mem­bers of the Mus­lim com­mu­ni­ty for their ded­i­ca­tion, pa­tri­o­tism and hard work. Your ef­forts have con­tributed to the over­all progress and de­vel­op­ment of our na­tion and I salute you on be­half of a grate­ful na­tion. We look for­ward to even greater achieve­ments and progress with­in the Mus­lim com­mu­ni­ty so that our coun­try will con­tin­ue to ben­e­fit. "May Almighty Al­lah ac­cept your fasts, your char­i­ty, your prayers and ex­tra acts of wor­ship and may your ef­forts gain you the mer­cies and bless­ings of your Sus­tain­er."
