Suspect held in death of Barrackpore woman
A suspect has been held in the murder of a Barrackpore woman that has left both her blind widower and grieving son calling for citizens to transform the nation. Police reports said Leela Deonarinesingh, 64, of Oli Mohammed Trace, was found dead around 8 am yesterday at her home with wounds to the head. Although Deonarinesingh was found naked, police said they have not determined whether or not she was sexually assaulted. An autopsy is expected to be carried out tomorrow Police said the suspect moved into the area within the past few months where he worked and lived at a car wash facility .
Deonarinesingh’s husband, Deodat, 69, and son Aneal, 42, said she was a friendly woman who spoke to everyone and had spoken briefly with the suspect on various occasions. Deodat said his wife usually go to the market on Sunday mornings. He waited for her return after waking up, but when he found she was taking too long, he went downstairs to investigate. He touched his wife’s bed and recoiled as he felt her cold body, he said.
He said he went outside and began screaming loudly for help from his neighbours. The first to respond, Kimraj Ramkissoon, called the police, who he said took more than three hours to arrive. Deodat said he does not expect the Government to curb the increasing murder rate. “The Government is we the people. We are the ones who need to get up and see what is going wrong and take care of each other. We need unity,” he said. Deonarinesingh is also survived by another son, Ashton, who lives abroad.
