Bus workers in San Fernando who engaged on several days of protest action for better wages and working conditions will return to their duties today. The decision came after PTSC general manager Roland Forde and deputy manager of Engineering David Bartholomew met with representatives of the Transport and Industrial Workers Union yesterday.
Union representative Wendell Subiah said Forde agreed to fix all lunch rooms, toilets, urinals and showers in San Fernando, which were in a state of disrepair. "They also agreed that they will improve the general workshop areas and the pit area which was severely affected by a mosquito infestation and poor lighting," Subiah said. He added that all health and safety issues were expected to be addressed immediately.
"Our meeting was receptive and fruitful and because of this we decided that we will return to work tomorow...The union will address all workers tomorow," he said. On Thursday workers in the garage area downed tools and employees of other departments joined on Friday. For three days no buses left the San Fernando location.
