Bus work­ers in San Fer­nan­do who en­gaged on sev­er­al days of protest ac­tion for bet­ter wages and work­ing con­di­tions will re­turn to their du­ties to­day. The de­ci­sion came af­ter PTSC gen­er­al man­ag­er Roland Forde and deputy man­ag­er of En­gi­neer­ing David Bartholomew met with rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Trans­port and In­dus­tri­al Work­ers Union yes­ter­day.

Union rep­re­sen­ta­tive Wen­dell Subi­ah said Forde agreed to fix all lunch rooms, toi­lets, uri­nals and show­ers in San Fer­nan­do, which were in a state of dis­re­pair. "They al­so agreed that they will im­prove the gen­er­al work­shop ar­eas and the pit area which was se­vere­ly af­fect­ed by a mos­qui­to in­fes­ta­tion and poor light­ing," Subi­ah said. He added that all health and safe­ty is­sues were ex­pect­ed to be ad­dressed im­me­di­ate­ly.

"Our meet­ing was re­cep­tive and fruit­ful and be­cause of this we de­cid­ed that we will re­turn to work to­morow...The union will ad­dress all work­ers to­morow," he said. On Thurs­day work­ers in the garage area downed tools and em­ploy­ees of oth­er de­part­ments joined on Fri­day. For three days no bus­es left the San Fer­nan­do lo­ca­tion.
