For­eign Af­fairs Min­is­ter Win­ston Dook­er­an met briefly yes­ter­day with for­mer Pres­i­dent of Guyana, Dr Bhar­rat Jagdeo, on is­sues of im­por­tance re­lat­ing to the Caribbean. A re­lease is­sued by the min­is­ter said the meet­ing took place at the diplo­mat­ic lounge, Pi­ar­co In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port, while Jagdeo was in­tran­sit en route to Ko­rea to at­tend the In­ter­na­tion­al Union for Con­ser­va­tion of Na­ture's (IUCN) world con­ser­va­tion con­gress. "The main is­sues dis­cussed were the chal­lenges of the Caribbean con­ver­gence mod­el, the po­si­tion of the Caribbean on glob­al is­sues and the pres­ence of small economies in the G20," the min­istry said. Jagdeo up­dat­ed Dook­er­an on his on­go­ing work re­lat­ing to the en­vi­ron­ment. He is the high-lev­el en­voy for sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment in for­est coun­tries and is an IUCN pa­tron of na­ture.
