Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran met briefly yesterday with former President of Guyana, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, on issues of importance relating to the Caribbean. A release issued by the minister said the meeting took place at the diplomatic lounge, Piarco International Airport, while Jagdeo was intransit en route to Korea to attend the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) world conservation congress. "The main issues discussed were the challenges of the Caribbean convergence model, the position of the Caribbean on global issues and the presence of small economies in the G20," the ministry said. Jagdeo updated Dookeran on his ongoing work relating to the environment. He is the high-level envoy for sustainable development in forest countries and is an IUCN patron of nature.
