After receiving no response to hundreds of letters sent to various people and organisations for help, the youths of Point Fortin Home Work Centre have turned to someone they know would not fail them-God. The students are desperately trying to raise $586,000 to cover the cost of performing in the international music festival in Spain next month. In a touching letter to God, the students stated: "We need help. Please let anyone who reads this letter find it in their heart to help us. Father, You said 'suffer little children to come unto you for such is your kingdom,' and also, "a child will lead them.'
"Father we are suffering mentally, physically and in every other way."?Another excerpt from the letter stated: "We the members of the choir assisted in putting hundreds of letters in envelopes, putting on stamps, taking them to many of the Government Ministries and no one is responding.
"We see our co-ordinator suffering in silence and it is hurting us terribly. Lord, after you most times she is all we have.?Lord, please help us. Father, we may not be much in the eyes of your people but Lord we know that we are precious in your sight. "You gave us talent and sent us to the Home Work Centre so that we could be given a chance to use this talent. Is it because we are poor that we are not being looked at or helped?"
The one-page letter was signed by all the members of the choir, parents and tutors. Co-ordinator Veronica Nolan said her heart was breaking because with no help forthcoming the students' opportunity to perform on an international stage was like a distant dream. They have been using donation sheets in an attempt to raise funds and last Saturday held a concert but it was poorly attended.
She said they were able to scrape up enough money to meet yesterday's deadline for the $35,000 accommodation fee. "We have nothing left now. I just don't know what to do," she added. Nolan is hoping and praying that good Samaritans come to their aid and help the students fulfil their dream.
