Highway caves in near Sea Lots in east Port of Spain
UPDATED WED 5 SEP, 4,16 PM
Part of the westbound lane of the Beetham highway has caved in, causing a pile-up of traffic entering and exiting the city.
The westbound carriageway of the highway between the Central Market and the lighthouse is closed until further notice, Work Minister Emmanuel George has said.
Works are intended to be completed by tomorrow morning, George said.
The minister has also warned drivers not to try to enter Port of Spain via the highway at this time. Instead, drivers coming into the city should use the Eastern Main Road, George said.
Drivers should turn off either at the Maritime Roundabout via the Barataria flyover, or at the flyover near the NP compound in Sea Lots.
