A 50-year-old Tobago woman was hacked to death on Thursday evening as she tended her garden near her home. According to police reports, around 10 am Veronica King-George, a farmer of Mason Hall, left home to visit her garden a short distance away. Relatives contacted police when she did not return home by 5 pm. While conducting a search in the area, police found King-George lying unconscious near her vegetable plot.

King-George had several chop wounds to the head, as well as stab wounds to the chest. She was pronounced dead on the scene by a district medical officer. Homicide detectives had no motives for King-George’s killing up to late yesterday. Relatives told investigators she had no known enemies. Neighbours, who were interviewed by police, all said they did not hear King-George’s screams for help or see her attacker. The murder toll for the year stood at 284 up to late yesterday. Supt Baldeo Nanan and detectives of the Region Two Homicide Bureau and Tobago CID are investigating.
