Just two months after bidding farewell to Rose Persad, mourners returned to the family's home yesterday for the funeral of her daughter who was killed in the same way and place as her mother. Dianne Persad, 26, lived in Queens, New York, but came back to attend her mother's funeral in June and take care of her father Basdeo Persad. She was planning to return home next week Tuesday.
Persad was standing on the roadway near a neighbour's house when she was hit by a car which slammed her against another car on Tuesday. She died in her father's arms, just like her mother a few months ago. Pundit Hansraj Harripersad Maharaj who officiated at the service at the family's Rochard Road, Barrackpore, home told relatives,?"Stand up and be strong. In life we all have different plans, but God holds the ultimate plan."
He urged mourners to live life to the fullest and with love, because death has no appointment. Delivering the eulogy, Persad's brother-in-law Neil Ramjattan said she was the second of four children and had migrated to the US in 2006. An assistant manager at a pharmacy, he said she worked hard and supported her siblings. She came back to see about her father after her mother died.
He said she would always be remembered as a loving and hard-working person. Her father fought to hold back tears as he sat by himself a short distance from the casket for the majority of the service. She was cremated at the Shore of Peace, Mosquito Creek.
