Police bust crime ring in Central
A gang of thieves operating in central Trinidad was nabbed yesterday evening by Central Divisional Police. Supt Johnny Abraham said he and police got word that a gang of men had been robbing people from Montrose, Chaguanas to Couva. He said police confronted the men in a gold Nissan Almera at Exchange Village, Couva, near the Exchange Shiv Mandir. He said one of the men was shot in the lower body by the police and taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. The men are from Laventille, Morvant and Couva.
Police were alerted by one of the victims, a 58-year-old man, who said he was robbed of a gold chain around 1.30 pm. The lawmen used a helicopter and a dog from the K-9 unit to track the men who they found in the Roystonia, Couva area. Residents of the area said a number of thieves and suspicious characters were making their way from north Trinidad and renting apartments in Central where they could plan and execute robberies. Police have previously offered to run free checks for landlords on prospective tenants before they rent properties.
