A gang of thieves op­er­at­ing in cen­tral Trinidad was nabbed yes­ter­day evening by Cen­tral Di­vi­sion­al Po­lice. Supt John­ny Abra­ham said he and po­lice got word that a gang of men had been rob­bing peo­ple from Mon­trose, Ch­agua­nas to Cou­va. He said po­lice con­front­ed the men in a gold Nis­san Almera at Ex­change Vil­lage, Cou­va, near the Ex­change Shiv Mandir. He said one of the men was shot in the low­er body by the po­lice and tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. The men are from Laven­tille, Mor­vant and Cou­va.

Po­lice were alert­ed by one of the vic­tims, a 58-year-old man, who said he was robbed of a gold chain around 1.30 pm. The law­men used a he­li­copter and a dog from the K-9 unit to track the men who they found in the Roys­to­nia, Cou­va area. Res­i­dents of the area said a num­ber of thieves and sus­pi­cious char­ac­ters were mak­ing their way from north Trinidad and rent­ing apart­ments in Cen­tral where they could plan and ex­e­cute rob­beries. Po­lice have pre­vi­ous­ly of­fered to run free checks for land­lords on prospec­tive ten­ants be­fore they rent prop­er­ties.
