Two men remained in police custody yesterday as investigations continued into their arrest after they were found with 20 kilos of marijuana in their possession. Around 10.26 am on September 10, Coast Guard Interceptor 029 was on patrol near Chacachacare Island, when they observed two men in a pirogue acting in a suspicious manner. The blue and white vessel, which bore the name Master G's, was stopped around 10.57 am after the occupants attempted to throw a box over the side while being pursued by the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard retrieved the box and detained the men. The boat was towed to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas. Officers of the Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearms Bureau (OCNFB) were contacted and searched the box, which contained several parcels of marijuana. The men and drugs were later handed over to the OCNFB. Checks with the OCNFB yesterday revealed enquiries were continuing and no charges have yet been laid.
