Two men from Plymouth, Tobago, are nursing gunshot wounds following a shooting incident in their area on Wednesday night. The wounded were identified as Keon Gardiner, 29, and Hollis Pantin, 30. According to police reports the incident occurred at approximately 6 pm on Wednesday while the duo walked close to their home. The men told police that a man known to them approached them and opened fire. Gardiner suffered shots to the chest, right arm and left leg, while Pantin was shot in the right arm.
Both Pantin and Gardiner were treated at hospital and discharged on Wednesday night. The T&T Guardian was told the shooting is gang-related and stemmed from a gambling incident over the weekend and an on-going turf war in the area. A man in his 20s from Plymouth was seen fleeing the scene after the shooting and is currently being sought by police. He was last seen wearing a white merino and a pair of blue three–quarter jeans.
The Scarborough CID is spearheading inquiries. Cynthia Gardiner, mother of Keon said her family fear for their lives since the alleged shooter remains on the run. "I was told that the man was seen in the area and is planning to get to Trinidad by pirogue. "We told the police but we are still fearful because he could come back at any time, but we need justice," she said
Cynthia, who is an employee with Cepep Tobago, said she was not satisfied with the medical attention given to her son. "The doctors sent home my son the same night he was shot, with just antibiotics and painkillers. My child is in a lot of pain and he still has bullets in his body, but the doctors saying he would be alright.
"I know when people get shoot they keep them for at least 24 hours for observation but they did not do that and now I have to take my child to a private doctor to see what could be done. I am afraid that the bullets will slow poison him," she said. She is therefore calling for a speedy resolution to the matter.
