Three members of a Carenage family were yesterday granted a total of $650,000 bail after they pleaded not guilty to cocaine possession. Registered nurse Annette Superville, 59; her son, Nigel Superville, 29; and his girlfriend Sue-Ellen Mc Lean, 31, of Baird Street, Carenage, appeared before Senior Magistrate Annette Mc Kenzie in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Court. The three were charged with possession of 551 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. They were arrested around 1.34 pm last Friday when police searched their house and allegedly found the cocaine hidden in a plastic bag in a cooler in the kitchen. The drugs have an approximate street value of $150,000. The three were represented by attorney Larry Williams yesterday. In making the bail application Williams told the court that Nigel Superville, a construction worker at the Chaguaramas Dockyard, had four convictions, while Mc Lean had two.
Granting Nigel bail in the amount of $350,000 to be approved by a Clerk of the Peace III, Mc Kenzie ordered him to report to the Carenage Police Station three times a week. Nigel's mother and girlfriend were each granted bail of $150,000, also to be approved by a Clerk of the Peace III. Requesting that the mother and girlfriend be granted a cash alternative, Williams explained that there might be some difficulty with ensuring the requisite approval. Acknowledging Williams' concern, Mc Kenzie agreed to a cash alternative of $70,000 each and told Williams to inform the registry if he had any problems in accessing the bail. The matter was then adjourned to October 15.
