The Joint Trade Union Move­ment (JTUM) is call­ing for the re­moval of At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Anand Ram­lo­gan and Jus­tice Min­is­ter Her­bert Vol­ney. The JTUM, which groups the two labour fed­er­a­tions-the Na­tion­al Trade Union Cen­tre and the Fed­er­a­tion of In­de­pen­dent Trade Unions and NGOs-said it de­lib­er­at­ed ex­ten­sive­ly on Tues­day on the way for­ward on the is­sues sur­round­ing Sec­tion 34.

It said it "con­demned out­right, in the strongest pos­si­ble terms, the ob­scene and sur­rep­ti­tious at­tempt by the gov­ern­ment to fa­cil­i­tate the free­ing of their ma­jor par­ty fi­nanciers. "The clan­des­tine man­ner in which Sec­tion 34 was pro­claimed speaks vol­umes with re­gards to the lev­el of dis­re­spect, con­tempt and dis-re­gard for our democ­ra­cy and by ex­ten­sion all the peo­ple of Trinidad and To­ba­go. It said: "It was sim­ply a shame­less dis­play of dis­hon­esty at the high­est or­der and a huge in­sult for the in­tel­li­gence of the peo­ple."

The JTUM said it "strong­ly and un­con­di­tion­al­ly sup­ports the nu­mer­ous calls for the im­me­di­ate re­moval of the Min­is­ter of Jus­tice and the At­tor­ney Gen­er­al." The JTUM al­so said it called for the re­moval of Min­is­ter Jack Warn­er for his at­tack on the Pres­i­dent Maxwell Richards and Dean Col­in Sam­son.

"We call on the Prime Min­is­ter to re­move him im­me­di­ate­ly. Should the Prime Min­is­ter fail to re­move these three min­is­ters with­in 48 hours then the JTUM stands ready to join forces in a broad-based na­tion­al front to de­ter­mine the nec­es­sary mass ac­tions to­wards this ob­jec­tive."
