The Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) is calling for the removal of Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and Justice Minister Herbert Volney. The JTUM, which groups the two labour federations-the National Trade Union Centre and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions and NGOs-said it deliberated extensively on Tuesday on the way forward on the issues surrounding Section 34.
It said it "condemned outright, in the strongest possible terms, the obscene and surreptitious attempt by the government to facilitate the freeing of their major party financiers. "The clandestine manner in which Section 34 was proclaimed speaks volumes with regards to the level of disrespect, contempt and dis-regard for our democracy and by extension all the people of Trinidad and Tobago. It said: "It was simply a shameless display of dishonesty at the highest order and a huge insult for the intelligence of the people."
The JTUM said it "strongly and unconditionally supports the numerous calls for the immediate removal of the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General." The JTUM also said it called for the removal of Minister Jack Warner for his attack on the President Maxwell Richards and Dean Colin Samson.
"We call on the Prime Minister to remove him immediately. Should the Prime Minister fail to remove these three ministers within 48 hours then the JTUM stands ready to join forces in a broad-based national front to determine the necessary mass actions towards this objective."
