The owner of a Penal nightclub and a clothing proprietor were among 16 held by police during an exercise on Friday. The exercise was carried out by the South Western Divisional Task Force and Penal CID. The suspects, ranging between the ages of 18 and 57, include one held for firearm possession, six for narcotics and the others on outstanding warrants.
All will appear at the Siparia Magistrates Court tomorrow. Of the persons charged with narcotic possession, two were charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. They were held within 500 metres of the Penal Presbyterian Primary School. One, a 32-year-old man, was held with 28 grammes of cocaine worth $2,000 and a 30-year-old man was found with three grammes of cocaine and two grammes of marijuana.
