An army corporal who reappeared in court yesterday charged with marijuana possession was granted $30,000 bail to be approved by a clerk of the peace. Cpl Watom Edwards, 34, of Upper Bournes Road, St James, was represented by attorney Larry Williams when he reappeared before Magistrate Debbie Ann Bassaw in the Tenth Court yesterday.
Edwards, who has 14 years' service, was also granted a cash alternative in the amount of $5,000 and will reappear in court tomorrow when a description of the item will be taken. The father of four was arrested around 2 pm on September 29, after officers executed a search warrant at a house in St James. Edwards was charged by PC Kelvin Charles, of the Four Roads Police Station.
Meanwhile, three fishermen of Harding Place, Cocorite, who were charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, will reappear on October 30. Reappearing before Senior Magistrate Annette McKenzie in the Fourth Court, Fabien Dookie, 29, had his bail revoked, while the bail for Ridge Williams, 23, and a 17-year-old teenager remained unchanged. Dookie was later granted bail in the amount of $85,000 to be approved by a clerk of the peace.
A cash alternative of $35,000 was also granted. The three pleaded not guilty to the charge when they appeared in court on Monday. They were arrested last Friday after police executed a search warrant at a house in Cocorite and recovered 1.15 kilos of marijuana, a Camry digital scale, a scale pan and one reel of clear plastic wrap.
