A taxi driver who slapped a female police officer during an argument over a fare was fined $5,000 yesterday when he appeared in court. Richardo Millineaux, of Cascade, was granted three months in which to pay the fine or in default, he will serve nine months' hard labour. Millineaux, a father of 11, pleaded guilty to slapping WPC Chenelle David, when he appeared before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Port-of-Spain Third Court.
The court heard that around 10 pm on October 1, Millineaux boarded the taxi in Port-of-Spain, on her way to work in St Clair. After she handed Millineaux a $10 bill, he reportedly handed her $4 in change, prompting her to ask what the correct fare was. It is reported that during the ensuing argument, Millineaux slapped David. Millineaux yesterday apologised to David in court, and when questioned by the magistrate, he admitted to having two daughters and not wanting them to be slapped by anyone.
