Public Administration Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan is up against incumbent Joseph Toney for the post of chairman of the Congress of the People (COP) in the party's October 28 National Executive elections. Also vying for the position is Rekha Ramjit.
Former junior minister of communication, Nicole Dyer-Griffith, who was relieved of that post by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar earlier this year, is one of three candidates for the post of deputy chairman. The other contenders are Vido Ramroop and Hugh Nurse.
At the close of nomination day on October 5, a total of 22 candidates had filed documents to contest the nine posts on the National Executive. The elections will be conducted using the "one man, one vote" system.
