Pub­lic Ad­min­is­tra­tion Min­is­ter Car­olyn Seep­er­sad-Bachan is up against in­cum­bent Joseph Toney for the post of chair­man of the Con­gress of the Peo­ple (COP) in the par­ty's Oc­to­ber 28 Na­tion­al Ex­ec­u­tive elec­tions. Al­so vy­ing for the po­si­tion is Rekha Ramjit.

For­mer ju­nior min­is­ter of com­mu­ni­ca­tion, Nicole Dy­er-Grif­fith, who was re­lieved of that post by Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar ear­li­er this year, is one of three can­di­dates for the post of deputy chair­man. The oth­er con­tenders are Vi­do Ram­roop and Hugh Nurse.

At the close of nom­i­na­tion day on Oc­to­ber 5, a to­tal of 22 can­di­dates had filed doc­u­ments to con­test the nine posts on the Na­tion­al Ex­ec­u­tive. The elec­tions will be con­duct­ed us­ing the "one man, one vote" sys­tem. The post of po­lit­i­cal leader, cur­rent­ly held by Prakash Ra­mad­har, is not be­ing con­test­ed since his term is for three years and ends in Ju­ly 2014.
