A 21-year-old salesman was granted $150,000 bail when he appeared in court charged with kidnapping, rape and robbery. Aaton Leon Thomas, of St James, was not called upon to plead when he appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor in the Port-of-Spain Seventh Court on Thursday.
The charges read that on September 20, at St James, Thomas unlawfully took the 23-year-old victim to a house in the area with intent to sexually assault her; had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent; and stole the victim's property valued at $55,000.
Thomas is also charged with stealing the woman's BlackBerry cellphone valued at $1,000 in Chaguaramas, on the same day. The charges were laid by PC Marlon Linton of the Carenage Police Station. Warning Thomas not to have any contact with the victim, Baboolal-Gafoor ordered him to report to the St James Police Station every Tuesday and Friday. The matter was later adjourned to November 2. Thomas was arrested by Northern Division Task Force officers last Sunday.
