A 21-year-old sales­man was grant­ed $150,000 bail when he ap­peared in court charged with kid­nap­ping, rape and rob­bery. Aa­ton Leon Thomas, of St James, was not called up­on to plead when he ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Mau­reen Ba­boolal-Gafoor in the Port-of-Spain Sev­enth Court on Thurs­day.

The charges read that on Sep­tem­ber 20, at St James, Thomas un­law­ful­ly took the 23-year-old vic­tim to a house in the area with in­tent to sex­u­al­ly as­sault her; had sex­u­al in­ter­course with the vic­tim with­out her con­sent; and stole the vic­tim's prop­er­ty val­ued at $55,000.

Thomas is al­so charged with steal­ing the woman's Black­Ber­ry cell­phone val­ued at $1,000 in Ch­aguara­mas, on the same day. The charges were laid by PC Mar­lon Lin­ton of the Care­nage Po­lice Sta­tion. Warn­ing Thomas not to have any con­tact with the vic­tim, Ba­boolal-Gafoor or­dered him to re­port to the St James Po­lice Sta­tion every Tues­day and Fri­day. The mat­ter was lat­er ad­journed to No­vem­ber 2. Thomas was ar­rest­ed by North­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force of­fi­cers last Sun­day.
