Port-of-Spain mayor Louis Lee Sing has given those responsible for plastering the wall of Lapeyrouse Cemetery until tomorrow at 10 am to remove the plaster, otherwise he and his councillors will chisel it off. In a telephone interview yesterday, Lee Sing said he and his councillors would take heavy hammers and chisels and whatever else was needed to remove the plaster. He said other interested people were welcome to join him.

Lee Sing said he had been unable to find out who was responsible for plastering the wall and the cost of doing the job, and those involved had until Saturday to let him know who they were. He said ultimately the city’s chief engineer must be held accountable but the CEO of the corporation, Winifred David, should provide the answers.

On Tuesday, Lee Sing expressed his dissatisfaction over the plastering of the wall. He also asked who gave permission to have the wall plastered and how the funding for the project was obtained. Calls to the corporation’s chief engineer and CEO yesterday were unsuccessful.
