Man, nephew shot dead in St Joseph (with CNC3 video)
A 52-year-old man and his 23-year-old nephew were murdered as they sat in their car in St Joseph on Tuesday night in what police have described as a gang-related killing. Around 11.30 pm, residents of Farm Road, St Joseph, alerted police to a strange car they noticed parked in their community.
St Joseph police responded and they found a black Mazda 323 at the side of the road with its engine running. When they investigated they saw two men slumped over in the front seat with several gunshot wounds to the head. The two were pronounced dead at the scene by a district medical officer.
The men were later identified as Rudolph Chambers, 52, of Runnymede, Tobago, and his 23-year-old nephew Demetri Chambers, of Bedessie Street, Curepe. Homicide detectives said the two were not known to be involved in criminal activity. Investigators are working on the theory that a botched drug transaction led to their deaths.
Police believe that the men may have been killed somewhere else and their bodies dumped in St Joseph, since residents told police they did not hear any gunshots. The murder toll now stands at 322 for the year. Senior Supt David Abraham, Supt Garth Nelson and Insp Wayne Lawrence visited the scene and are investigating the double murder.
