Up to late yesterday, Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) board members were locked in a meeting discussing their next move. This follows line minister Bhoe Tewarie's announcement of plans to disband the board in light of ongoing contention between board members and chairman Danny Solomon.
The T&T Guardian learned some of the board members yesterday indicated their intention to resign immediately. However, up to press time no decision had been made. Tewarie was expected to send a note to Cabinet yesterday recommending for the board to be changed.
Distancing himself from the controversy over the board, Tewarie said he never recommended the board but became responsible when he took over as line minister. Stories published exclusively in the Sunday Guardian highlighted CDA?decisions that went against board positions. The board members have been at loggerheads with Solomon over management issues.
Yesterday some dismissed statements that several decisions were made unanimously. "All meetings were suspended more than two months ago because of the numerous complaints were have. We wrote to the line minister thinking that the issues would be rectified but this is the end result," one board member said.
Referring to the decision to accept a $2.9 million cheque from a third party after the board agreed to grant a lease to EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd, another board member said: "We never agreed to accept that cheque. We have letters questioning who authorised the acceptance of that cheque. That was not a unanimous decision."
