A 21-year-old man is in po­lice cus­tody af­ter he was caught with an il­le­gal firearm in his pos­ses­sion. Po­lice said around 11.45 pm, Cpl Ram­lo­gan, PC Nicholas and PC Ram­cha­ran were on mo­bile pa­trol when they spot­ted the ac­cused at Ban­doo Trace, St Mar­garet's. The of­fi­cers searched him and found a 1.25 se­mi-au­to­mat­ic pis­tol with a mag­a­zine and two rounds of .25 am­mu­ni­tion.

The sus­pect was tak­en to the St Mar­garet's Po­lice Sta­tion where he was charged for pos­ses­sion of arms and am­mu­ni­tion. He will ap­pear in the San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trates' Court to­day.
