State prepares to battle motion of censure against AG

Members of the PNM’s Women’s League and UNC members will be outside Parliament today for the Opposition’s motion against the Attorney General. The Opposition’s motion of censure against the AG begins at 1.30 pm today in Parliament. PNM leader Keith Rowley has called for AG Anand Ramlogan to be removed as a result of the proclamation of the controversial Section 34.

PNM lady vice chairman Donna Cox said yesterday some Women’s League members would be dressed in white and would gather outside the Parliament at the Waterfront during lunchtime. She said some league members also may attend the debate. Cox added: “It is not going to be a demonstration or any rowdy gathering but simply a peaceful show of support for the leader’s motion.”

UNC chairman Jack Warner did not answer calls on whether PP members also would show support for the AG against Rowley’s motion. A spokesman at UNC’s Rienzi Complex head office said some members may be outside the Parliament for the event. COP general secretary Nirad Tewarie said COP had not made any plans for the event.

Government confirmed on Wednesday debate would continue to conclusion and would likely run into the early hours of tomorrow. At yesterday’s post-Cabinet media briefing Communications Minister Jamal Mohammed said government MPs were in support of Attorney General Anand Ramlogan for today’s debate.
