Police were up to late yesterday investigating two murders in St Joseph and Morvant which took the murder toll for the year to 333. In the first incident, around 7.30 pm on Thursday, residents of Guaratta Village, Maracas Valley/St Joseph, reported hearing gunshots. Police responded and after a short search found a resident lying in his front yard with gunshot wounds to the chest and head.
He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He was later identified as 37-year-old Marlon Brusco. Brusco's murder has homicide detectives puzzled as he was not a known felon and had no criminal record. ASPs Worrell and Hosein of the Northern Division are continuing investigations.
Thirty minutes after Brusco's shooting, homicide detectives were summoned again, this time to Laventille. According to police reports, around 8 pm, officers of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF), were patrolling Trinity Drive in Morvant when they saw a man lying in a track off the roadway.
They investigated and discovered he bore multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a district medical officer (DMO). Investigators said a small bloodstained screwdriver found near the man's body was later ruled to be the murder weapon.
The man had not been identified up to late yesterday. Police said he had a Rastafarian hairstyle, was approximately five-foot seven-inches tall and was clad in red shorts and a white vest. Supt John Daniel and detectives of the Morvant CID are asking members of the public who may be able to identify the victim to contact the Morvant Police Station at 624-3737.
