The Gov­ern­ment yes­ter­day de­feat­ed the Op­po­si­tion in a mo­tion of cen­sure against At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Anand Ram­lo­gan in Par­lia­ment. When the mo­tion was brought to the floor dur­ing the wee hours of the morn­ing, 25 mem­bers of Gov­ern­ment vot­ed "against", while 11 Op­po­si­tion mem­bers vot­ed "for."

No one ab­stained. Speak­er Wade Mark point­ed out that the mo­tion was de­feat­ed "by a unan­i­mous ma­jor­i­ty." The mo­tion filed by Op­po­si­tion Leader Dr Kei­th Row­ley high­light­ed the breach of par­lia­men­tary trust by the AG in the pre­ma­ture procla­ma­tion of Sec­tion 34.

The mo­tion stat­ed:?"And be it fur­ther re­solved that this ho­n­ourable House ex­pressed its loss of con­fi­dence in the At­tor­ney Gen­er­al and called on the Prime Min­is­ter to im­me­di­ate­ly re­lieve him of the port­fo­lio of At­tor­ney Gen­er­al."
