Govt defeats the Opposition
The Government yesterday defeated the Opposition in a motion of censure against Attorney General Anand Ramlogan in Parliament. When the motion was brought to the floor during the wee hours of the morning, 25 members of Government voted “against”, while 11 Opposition members voted “for.”
No one abstained. Speaker Wade Mark pointed out that the motion was defeated “by a unanimous majority.” The motion filed by Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley highlighted the breach of parliamentary trust by the AG in the premature proclamation of Section 34.
The motion stated: “And be it further resolved that this honourable House expressed its loss of confidence in the Attorney General and called on the Prime Minister to immediately relieve him of the portfolio of Attorney General.”
