Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has expressed solidarity with those living in the United States who have been affected by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. In a release issued from the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday, she reiterated her support to the authorities working in the US to ensure the crisis caused by this storm was managed effectively.
The release added: "The Prime Minister has taken note of the outstanding work being done by the Fire Services, the National Guard, the police and others to minimise loss of life and property. "It is commendable that people are willing to risk their own lives and their safety to ensure their countrymen and women survived this terrible ordeal."
Persad-Bissessar also praised the efforts of the Canadian authorities whose citizens also fell victim to Sandy's destructive path. The release said: "The Prime Minister has been advised that tens of thousands in Toronto and surrounding areas have also been affected by Hurricane Sandy, with many losing power.
"The Prime Minister commends the Canadian authorities for their swift response to the situation and her thoughts remain with the nationals of Trinidad and Tobago residing in Toronto and environs as well as the Canadian citizens who have been impacted by the storm.
"The Prime Minister will continue to keep abreast of developments in Canada and the United States and the impact on nationals and will advise the public accordingly. "Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all who have suffered loss," the release added.
