The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is not required to return the file on the investigation into former Minister in the Ministry of National Security Collin Partap to acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams if he needs additional information on it.
Instead, DPP Roger Gaspard, SC, said a request for additional information was made on November 6, and he is hoping to get the information soon before making any recommendations. Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, Gaspard confirmed his request but declined to say what exactly he had asked for.
Williams last week said he had not received the file from the DPP. Contacted yesterday, the acting head of the Police Service said, "I have nothing more to say on the Partap issue." Williams submitted the file to Joan Paul-Honore on October 22. Paul-Honore was acting DPP at the time, as Gaspard was out of the country.
Gaspard last week confirmed he had the file and after reading it, he had requested additional information. Partap was fired by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on August 25. He was fired after being taken to the Belmont Police Station for a breathalyser test after police stopped his car when he left a Port-of-Spain nightclub.
