A Diego Martin man remained hospitalised yesterday after he was shot on Saturday night. Police said around 10 pm, Russell George, 56, of Sea Trace, Bagatelle, was at work at the football grounds at Bagatelle Road, Diego Martin, when he was confronted by two men. An argument ensued, following which one of the men drew a firearm and shot George twice in the right leg, according to police reports.
As George slumped to the ground, the two men escaped. Nearby residents who heard the gunshots alerted the police. Officers arrived at the scene and took George to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he was treated and is warded in a stable condition. A motive is yet to be ascertained for the shooting. PC Joseph of the West End Police Station is continuing investigations.
In a separate incident Anderson Ross and Tersha Williams were shot while liming around 2.30 am. Ross, 36, of Malabar Extension and Williams, 34, of Lutchmansingh Drive, Malabar, were standing in an open yard opposite Destiny Sports Bar, Malabar Main Road, when a car drove past and the occupants opened fire on them.
Patrons at the bar assisted the couple by taking them to the Arima Health Facility, where they were treated and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope. Up to yesterday, the two were said to be in a satisfactory condition. WPC Toussaint of the Arima Police Station is continuing enquiries.
Meanwhile officials at the Point Fortin Hospital contacted the police officers after a patient turned up nursing several gunshot wounds about his body. The patient who gave his name as Ronnie Elcock, 33, became unconscious while being treated and was transferred to the San?Fernando General Hospital. Investigations are continuing.
