Four men, in­clud­ing two Venezue­lans, were ar­rest­ed on Tues­day af­ter T&T Coast Guard of­fi­cers dis­cov­ered five guns and one ki­lo of co­caine on board their boat when they ar­rived from Venezuela. Around 12.13 pm T&T Coast Guard In­ter­cep­tor 027, on a rou­tine pa­trol, spot­ted the pirogue four-and-a-half miles off Gas­par Grande, near Cha­cachacare is­land.

Ques­tion­ing the men, who in­clud­ed two Trinida­di­ans, of­fi­cers found they were trav­el­ling from Venezuela. In­ter­cept­ing the white and blue ves­sel, named Sham, they es­cort­ed it and its oc­cu­pants to Stauble's Bay, Ch­aguara­mas, where they searched it. Dur­ing the search they found the pis­tols and co­caine hid­den among var­i­ous items.

Of­fi­cers of the Or­gan­ised Crime Nar­cotics and Firearms Bu­reau and the Care­nage Po­lice, Cus­toms and Ex­cise of­fi­cials and Im­mi­gra­tion of­fi­cers were con­tact­ed and the men and items were hand­ed over by the Coast Guard. The men re­mained in cus­tody as fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions were be­ing car­ried out.
