Four men, including two Venezuelans, were arrested on Tuesday after T&T Coast Guard officers discovered five guns and one kilo of cocaine on board their boat when they arrived from Venezuela. Around 12.13 pm T&T Coast Guard Interceptor 027, on a routine patrol, spotted the pirogue four-and-a-half miles off Gaspar Grande, near Chacachacare island.
Questioning the men, who included two Trinidadians, officers found they were travelling from Venezuela. Intercepting the white and blue vessel, named Sham, they escorted it and its occupants to Stauble's Bay, Chaguaramas, where they searched it. During the search they found the pistols and cocaine hidden among various items.
Officers of the Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearms Bureau and the Carenage Police, Customs and Excise officials and Immigration officers were contacted and the men and items were handed over by the Coast Guard. The men remained in custody as further investigations were being carried out.
