The Canadian who was grounded in Trinidad for two days after he was blacklisted by several airlines is set to be reunited with his fiancee tomorrow. Jacques Heroux left T&T around 4.30 pm yesterday on board Panama's Copa Airlines flight bound for Panama, en route to Brazil.
Heroux, 48, of Three Rivers, Quebec, Canada, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was fined $8,000 on Tuesday when he appeared before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie in the Arima Second Court. However, after his court appearance, he was unable to get a flight out of Trinidad because he was blacklisted by several airlines.
He spent a third night at the Palms Hotel, Trincity, on Wednesday but got a flight after an overture by his attorney Fareed Ali to the Canadian High Commission to help him get to Brazil. Heroux is a technician with Nunavick Nickel Mining project. He appeared on Monday charged with disorderly conduct while aboard AA 221 on November 24, en route from Canada to Brazil and was granted $40,000 own bail.
Heroux's behaviour around 5 am forced the pilot to make an emergency landing at Piarco Airport, where he was "kicked off" the flight and taken into custody by Arima police. On Monday, he told the magistrate he was on his way to meet his fiancee, Adriana de Souza, in Brazil and was nervous about the flight so he drank to calm his nerves. Since the experience, he has vowed to stay away from alcohol.
