President of the National Infrastructure Development of Trinidad and Tobago (Nidco) Dr Carson Charles is being asked to account for more than $.4 million in payments made to him by a client who invested in his real estate firm. Documents have revealed that Charles' business-Policy Consultants Ltd-of which he is the director, collected monies from the client who purchased land in an area known as Solmed Drive Development Phase II, also known as Silver Stream, in south Trinidad.
According to one document, on May 2, 2007, the client paid $300,000 and a further $100,000 on May 16, 2012, for three lots of land. Following the transaction, the client claims calls to Charles since 2007 have gone unanswered and that he has refused to disclose when the deed would be made available.
Aggrieved client concerns
The client told Sunday Guardian that for the past five years calls and visits to Charles' Port-of-Spain business have been in vain. Stating that numerous attempts had been made to obtain the deed for the land, the client further claimed a request for a refund was made but nothing has been forthcoming.
Producing documents which showed dates and times of meetings with staff at Policy Consultants, the client said for far too long the transaction had been ignored. The client said he was forced to hire an attorney. The client claimed it was only recently that Policy Consultants was contacted but was told the necessary paperwork was yet to be completed.
"So long I paid for this land and it's like I'm only begging for what is mine. "It can't be that all these years and I have nothing to show for the money I spent," the client said.
