Freeport busi­ness­man Ken­neth Nan­doo re­mains ward­ed at hos­pi­tal af­ter be­ing shot by a rob­ber. Nan­doo, 52, of Chick­land Road,?Freeport, was robbed of $20,000 and oth­er valu­ables last night in the in­ci­dent which hap­pened out­side his busi­ness place in Freeport.

Po­lice said Nan­doo was stand­ing out­side his mi­ni-mart wait­ing for trans­port to go to the bank to make a de­posit around 8.30 am when he was ap­proached by a man wear­ing a ski mask. The man shot Nan­doo twice in the right leg be­fore and snatched a bag with cash, cheques and sev­er­al pieces of jew­el­ry. The rob­ber then jumped in­to a Toy­ota Corol­la car parked a short dis­tance away. Res­i­dents saw what hap­pened and took Nan­doo to hos­pi­tal.

De­tec­tives from the Freeport Po­lice Sta­tion re­spond­ed and found the get­away car on Taitt Mad­hoo Trace. It was on fire. A 21-year-old sus­pect of Freeport was ar­rest­ed. The man was as­sist­ing po­lice with their in­ves­ti­ga­tions yes­ter­day. Sergeant Andy Mo­hammed, as­sist­ed by Con­sta­ble Wayne An­toine, is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

Su­per­in­ten­dent John­ny Abra­ham urged busi­ness­men to be aware of their sur­round­ings when head­ing to the bank to make de­posits. "They should fluc­tu­ate the hours they are go­ing to the bank and be aware of their sur­round­ings.?I un­der­stand that this man goes to the bank at a par­tic­u­lar hour every Mon­day morn­ing," Abra­ham said.
