Marlene Coudray, Minister of Gender, Youth and Child Development, says she has noted with deep concern a statement attributed to a Minister in the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Child Development in a T&T Guardian story yesterday-Gays to have rights in Govt's gender policy.
In a release the minister stated:
"Firstly, please be advised that no such position exists in said ministry. The error may have been responsible for the lack of current facts which attend the 'Draft Gender Policy' before the Cabinet. "I do not think it is appropriate at this time to itemise those errors, because it would amount to pre-empting the authority of the Cabinet which has the sole jurisdiction in determining the final contents of any government policy."
As soon as, and in whatever shape the 'Gender Policy' is constructed by Cabinet, Coudray stated, "the authority resides with either the Honourable Prime Minister or the Minister of Gender Youth and Child Development to inform and engage the public accordingly."
