Hochoy Charles' The Platform for Truth (TPT) aims to be the party to end control of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) by parties dominated by Trinidad such as the PNM and TOP. Charles made that clear yesterday as his group continued the work he said it has been doing in communities for the last several years.
Charles's group is among contenders in the January 21 THA poll. He said his group had no links with Deborah Moore Miggins and Vanous James' new group.
Charles said statistics had shown that a third alternative could have won the 2009 THA poll easily without touching PNM or other support since Tobagonians had not wanted to vote. He said he and others urged people to go out and vote in 2010 to combat the PNM's proposed property tax then or else Tobagonians may have lost their property.
He said he had urged people to vote for the two TOP candidates in the 2010 general polls but is now campaigning to get people to "undo the foolishness that (Ashworth) Jack and them did in bringing Tobago into the PP." Charles said supporters felt his TPT must contest the THA poll based on the statistics of previous polls that a third party could win. He said both the PNM and TOP were dominated by parties based in Trinidad and his TPT was the only true Tobago party.
"We are the only party for self-governance and to remove the power Trinidad has over us and to prevent Trinidad's continued colonisation of Tobago," Charles said. He refused to talk about the TOP leader saying: "Jack worked with us, I'm not dealing with him-the time will come for that." Moore Miggins yesterday referred queries about her group to James who did not answer calls.
