Winton Phillip will spend the next 21 months doing hard labour in jail for breaking into two houses and stealing $13,000 in items. Phillip, 26, was held by residents after he broke into the second house at Coconut Drive, La Romaine, and handed over to the police. Some of the items were also found in his possession.
Phillip pleaded guilty to two counts of house-breaking and larceny when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando Magistrates Court. The charges were laid by PC Adesola Ogunsheye who was in court.
Police prosecutor Cleon Seedan said Lincoln Jaimungal, of Laurier Boulevard, secured his house last week Tuesday and went away. When he returned home two days later he discovered a table saw, two oxygen tanks, another tank and a bag of car parts were missing.
On that same day (December 6) around 6 am, Jaimungal's neighbour Kismath Rosan secured his home and went away. When he returned around 2 pm he noticed four men standing in his yard. He raised an alarm and the men ran in different directions.
Rosan and other residents chased and held Phillip with a brush cutter he stole from Rosan and other items from Jaimungal's house. The residents took him to the San Fernando Police Station and handed him over to PC Ogunsheye.
