A 12-member jury in the Port-of-Spain High Court yesterday heard details of how a 19-year-old was stabbed to death during an argument with a fellow teenager in 2005. During his testimony before Justice Geoffrey Henderson in the First Criminal Court, the state's main witness in the trial Adrian Thompson explained the events which led to the death of his friend Roger Brizan.
Brizan, 18, of Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, was stabbed to death at the corner of Waterloo Road and the Eastern Main Road in Arouca on November 2, 2005. The duo's friend 25-year-old Shadelle Duncan is before the court accused of Brizan's murder.
While being cross-examined by defence attorney Wayne Sturge, Thompson revealed the group were friends for over ten years. Thompson said that around 11.30 pm on the night of the incident, the friends were walking along the Eastern Main Road in Arouca when Brizan and Duncan had an altercation.
Thompson said he did not know the exact details of the argument but denied Sturge's assertions that Brizan was attempting to rob Duncan and he (Duncan) was defending himself. "He (Duncan) was behaving like a wild animal. Like a mad bull," Thompson said.
He said that another friend Wendell Oliver intervened and managed to restrain Duncan. Thompson said that while being held by Oliver, Duncan drew the knife and lunged "without hesitation" towards Brizan. Oliver has not testified.
